Sensing the Cave

My friends and I were hiking across a mountain. All we heard on our walk was our shoes crushing the leaves. We were trying to find a cave we could explore in. After about two hours we found a big cave. We all started inside, when there was a big blast of heat. We looked around the corner and we all gasped. We saw huge 36 foot tall crystals from the floor to the roof. We heard dripping water from the roof. We started to explore when it got hard to breath. We rushed back out of the cave. When we were outside the cave we took deep breaths before going back in. outside we had a little snack. We sat down on the rough rocks and ate our trail mix. After we ate we went back in the cave to see what else we could find.

When we were inside for the second time we got out our flashlights and we could see a lot better. We now could see where we were going. We followed a little stream. We followed it for about two minutes where we saw that at the bottom of the crystals it was flooded. We had been inside the cave for 10 minutes and needed to get out. On our way back up, there was a bad smell. I looked around the cave to find that there was a crystal that had rotted. We got out of the cave and told my friends what I saw. They said that they had smelled something to but did not know what it was. Before going back in for the third time we got out our equipment out that lets us stay in hot, and cold climates for a little time. After we put it on we went back in. When we went down we wanted to see how big it was so we measured it. We found out that it was about as big as a basketball court. I was amazed to find out that it was such a big cave. One of my friends touched one of the crystals and said that is was very warm.

We had been in the cave for 30 minutes and was running out of air. We had found so many observations about these huge crystals. We headed out back through the woods happy with our discovery. On our walk back we ate our sandwiches and touched the trees and felt the differences from the smooth crystals and the rough trees. When we got back to the city, we told everyone about our discovery. They were amazed to hear about it, and we were amazed to see it. We will go see it again someday.
